Short answer: Claude for Financial Advisors is a plugin for paid Claude plans, not a new model. It bundles advisor workflows (meeting prep, follow-up, portfolio reviews, compliance pre-checks) with official connectors to Addepar, BlackRock, Schwab, Envestnet (Tamarac and MoneyGuide), iCapital, Orion and Redtail, SS&C Black Diamond, Vanguard, Wealthbox, Wealth.com and Zocks. Most connectors only read data. If your CRM and portfolio system are listed, a pilot on a firm-licensed plan is worth it; if not, ask your vendor for a date.

Key takeaways

  • Anthropic released Claude for Financial Advisors in September 2026 with connectors to 11 advisor platforms, and it recommends the Enterprise plan for RIAs because it is the only plan with audit logs and compliance controls.
  • Ezra Group's directory of AI agents and MCP servers for advisors grew from 69 listings in mid-August to 244 on October 20, 2026.
  • Most core-platform connectors read data only; Black Diamond can create reports, tasks and rebalance sessions after advisor approval, and Wealthbox can write approved next steps to the CRM.
  • Zocks is one of the few advisor vendors whose connector is documented for Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot; eMoney's MCP framework is on its 2027 roadmap.

What happened, in plain English

In mid-September 2026 Anthropic released Claude for Financial Advisors, a suite of connectors and workflow "skills" for advisory practices. Anthropic describes it as a plugin you install inside Claude, not a new model or a separate app. The connectors use Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets an AI assistant read from, and sometimes write to, other software such as a CRM, a portfolio system or a custodian.

The launch pulled the systems of record into the AI conversation for the first time. Ezra Group, which tracks advisor AI agents and MCP servers, says its directory grew from 69 listings in mid-August to 244 on October 20, 2026 (123 agents and 121 MCP servers), a jump of more than 250% in about ten weeks. (Ezra Group discloses that it builds MCP servers for clients.)

Adoption pressure is real, but strategy is lagging. At RIA Edge on October 20, Celent's Ashley Longabaugh cited surveys showing 63% of RIAs now use AI, double the 2024 level, while only 1 in 10 firms uses it as a fully integrated part of its business strategy.

Which advisor platforms connect to Claude

Anthropic lists these official connectors for Claude for Financial Advisors, alongside existing connectors for Microsoft 365, Salesforce, DocuSign, Box, FactSet, S&P Global and Morningstar:

Claude for Financial Advisors connectors (as described by Anthropic and the vendors, checked October 23, 2026)

Orion + Redtail CRMOrion Connect portfolio data and Redtail CRM records, within each user's existing permissionsEzra reports firms set read or write access tool by tool
AddeparPortfolio data, analytics and workflows across public and private marketsRead-only, per Ezra
SS&C Black DiamondPortfolio, performance, holdings and rebalancing dataCan create client reports, tasks and rebalance sessions with advisor approval
Envestnet (MoneyGuide + Tamarac)Tamarac accounts and households, plus a MoneyGuide plan snapshotSummaries
Wealth.comEstate and tax picture: trust and will summaries, tax return insights, balance sheetSummaries with source citations
ZocksClient intelligence captured from meetings: profiles, goals, life events, commitmentsRead-only, per Zocks
Charles SchwabCustodial balances, positions, transactions, cost basis, alerts and money-movement statusEzra reported the connector was due in Q4 2026
iCapital, BlackRock, VanguardAlternative investment holdings; model portfolios and analyticsData and research access

Compare the two CRMs on the list in Wealthbox vs Redtail, and the portfolio platforms in Orion vs Addepar.

What about ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot?

Ezra Group found that Wealthbox, Orion, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, BlackRock and Vanguard document Claude and no other AI client today. That is awkward, because advisors mostly use ChatGPT: Ezra cites the 2026 T3/Inside Information Software Survey, which found ChatGPT at 40.9% of advisors and Claude at 6.2% (the survey closed months before the launch).

Smaller vendors are spreading wider. Zocks says its MCP server is live for Claude and ChatGPT (on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans) and for Microsoft 365 Copilot through a custom agent built in Copilot Studio. It is read-only, available on Zocks' Professional and Ultimate plans, and Zocks adds no extra charge for it. Ezra also lists GReminders as documenting Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot; see our new GReminders listing.

If your firm has standardized on Microsoft 365, compare Claude vs Microsoft 365 Copilot and ChatGPT vs Claude before licensing a second assistant.

Who is missing (for now)

  • Fidelity and BNY Pershing had no official connector as of October 20, 2026, according to Ezra Group.
  • eMoney Advisor announced an MCP framework on October 19, 2026, but as part of its 2027 roadmap, so it is not live yet.
  • RightCapital, Advyzon and Practifi built AI into their own products without exposing an MCP server, per Ezra. Practifi's AI-native Sentir CRM ships with its own agents instead.
  • Altruist is building its own Hazel agent rather than plugging into outside assistants.

Third-party bridges such as Zapier can fill gaps, but each one adds another company between the AI and client records, so it needs vendor due diligence too.

What it costs and which plan you need

Anthropic says the plugin works on paid Claude plans but recommends Enterprise for registered investment advisers, because it is the only plan with audit logs and compliance controls for a regulated firm. On Team and Enterprise plans, Anthropic says it does not train its models on your data by default. Team seats are published (see Claude pricing); Enterprise is quoted by sales.

Watch the connector side of the bill too. Ezra Group reports that Orion charges $15 per user per month for Redtail access through its connector. Check each vendor's terms: Zocks says it adds no charge, while your CRM, portfolio or planning vendor may price API or AI access separately. See CRM pricing and meeting-notes pricing for current list prices.

How to pilot it safely: a 6-point checklist

  1. Pick one firm-licensed AI client. Use a business or enterprise account so data sharing, retention and audit settings stay under firm control. Orion itself recommends connecting through an enterprise or business AI account because responses can include real client data.
  2. Map your stack. List each system and whether it has an official connector, a third-party bridge or nothing. That tells you how much of a client's picture the assistant will actually see.
  3. Start read-only. Orion's connector is off by default and must be enabled by a firm administrator; it uses each user's existing permissions. Test the approval flow before you enable any write actions.
  4. Tier the risk. At Financial Planning's ADVISE AI conference, Carnegie Mellon's Mohamed Farag suggested letting AI handle research with a human check, requiring review before CRM updates, independently verifying any recommendation, tax strategy or calculation, and keeping strict, auditable controls on anything that moves money or changes records.
  5. Keep the records. FINRA Regulatory Notice 24-09 says its rules apply to generative AI just as to any other technology. Decide how AI-drafted notes and client emails are reviewed and archived; see our guide to record-keeping for AI chats and notetakers.
  6. Ask vendors live, beta or roadmap. Ezra's audit found listed "agents" that were features, services or waitlists. Put the answer in writing before it goes into an RFP.

Anthropic says Claude does not give investment advice, place trades or move money, and that notes, emails and CRM updates are held until you approve them. Its compliance skill pre-checks client-facing language against the SEC Marketing Rule, but it is a pre-check ahead of your CCO's review, not an approval.

The bottom line

If you run on Wealthbox or Redtail plus Orion, Addepar or Black Diamond, a read-only pilot on a firm-licensed Claude plan is low-risk and can show quickly whether meeting prep and follow-up get faster. If your meeting notes live in Zocks, you can test the same idea in ChatGPT or Copilot today. If your planning runs on eMoney or RightCapital, or you custody at Fidelity or Pershing, the assistant will see only part of the household for now.
