What is an AI meeting summary?

Short answer

A written recap an AI tool produces from a meeting transcript: key points, decisions and action items.

Definition

An AI meeting summary is the condensed version of a recorded meeting. The tool reads the transcript and writes up what was discussed, what was decided and who's doing what next, often in a template the firm chooses.

Many notetakers produce several outputs from one meeting: an internal summary, a client-facing recap email and CRM tasks.

Why it matters for advisors

Summaries are where errors and judgment calls live. A summary can drop a caveat, misstate a number or phrase something as a recommendation that was only discussed. Review it before it goes in the file or to the client.

A summary sent to a client is a client communication. An internal summary may or may not be a required record depending on what it contains and how you use it. Decide with your CCO and apply the answer consistently.

Example

After an annual review, the advisor edits the AI recap to remove a line that sounded like a guarantee, then sends it. The edited version is what gets archived.

Watch out for

Keep the version you actually used. If the advisor edits the summary, the edited copy is usually the one that matters for the file.
