What are AI CRM features?
Short answer
AI built into a client relationship manager, such as note summaries, email drafts, task suggestions or questions about client history.
Definition
Most advisor CRMs now include AI features: summarizing a client's history, drafting emails from notes, suggesting next tasks, cleaning up records or answering questions like "which clients have RMDs this year?"
Some run on the CRM vendor's own systems, and some send data to an outside model provider.
Why it matters for advisors
Your CRM holds the most complete client record you have, so AI features inside it reach a lot of sensitive data at once. Ask whether the AI uses a separate sub-processor, whether data is retained or used for training, and whether the AI respects user permissions.
AI-drafted emails sent from the CRM are client communications. They need the same review as anything else you send.
Example
Before turning on a CRM's AI email assistant, the firm confirms which model provider it uses, adds that provider to its vendor file and limits the feature to advisors who've been trained.
Watch out for
AI features are often on by default after an update. Check settings after major releases.
